My New Addiction!

I have a new addiction: Online Yard Sales!  My friends will tell you that is pretty much all I talk about anymore.  There is everything for sale from door knobs to Dior!  People have even sold cars and homes via the online yard sale.  Now you would think that I am buying, but NO!  I am selling!

It is wonderful!  I have been selling all our extra stuff.  I brought a lot of items into our marriage and have been storing it.  I have sold lamps, tables, shoes, purses, crystal, storage materials, and even a chandelier!  Pretty much, you name it, I will sell it.  We have deleted so much stuff that we now have empty drawers in the house!  I was up in our attic this morning and we actually have space up there!  Wahoo!

My husband has even gotten into the act.  He will be grabbing something off a shelf and he something will catch his eye.  Next thing you know, we are taking a picture and posting the item!  The best thing about online sales is that you don't have to sell a bunch of stuff at once.  You can do an item here and there.  No pressure!  If it doesn't sell, you can hold onto it for awhile or put it into the donate pile.  Currently, we are concentrating on the garage.

The people on these yard sale sites are very nice as well.  If you ask for a referral for something, in minutes, you will get 50 responses.  It is a truly amazing way to use the Internet for good for everyone involved.  Even my friends are getting in on the act.  I have helped some of my best girlfriends put things up to sell.  You should try it.  Almost every city or suburb has an online garage or yard sale.  It feels great to purge your life of the things that no longer serve a purpose in your life.

It is wonderful to have empty space in your home.  It is even better knowing that someone else is getting to enjoy an item that you owned.  The best?  Getting a few dollars in your pocket to do as you please.  What am I going to do with mine?  Well, my dog ate our window seat, so that will be my first purchase.  And my husband has a big birthday coming up...

Pretty Things

I love purses.  My close friends call me a purse whore.  I actually have quite a collection.  I take care of them and rotate them for years.  At this time, I have enough purses to outfit everyone in my Zumba class with at least 2 per person.

I have enough.

This of course did not stop me when I saw the lovely piece of awesomeness that is pictured here.  The moment I saw it, I rushed right out and snagged this beauty.  I justified it because I didn't have a purse that had white leather.  I quickly brought my purchase home, but for some reason, I didn'tput it into rotation immediately.

After a few days, I realized that I did not even think about my purchase.  I saw it and basically shut my brain down and bought it.  No thinking allowed.

How many times do we do that in our eating?  Do you ever sit down at the table or better yet, in front of the TV and choose not to pay attention to the food in front of you.  Then suddenly it is gone and you are stuffed.  Remorse and regret set in.

I didn't need a new purse.  Once I sobered up from my "got to have it" high, I returned my little lovely so it could end up in someone else's collection.

Think before you do.

Shopping Like a Fat Girl

I love to shop!  If I could, I would make it a career.  Walking through stores and smelling the new clothes, seeing how they display them, and seeing what flies off the shelves gives me a thrill.  I adore it when I find a solution to a problem.  It is fun to see the newest thing.  The cream that will make you look younger.  The jeans that will make you skinny.  I love it when I get together with my girlfriends and we all tell of the newest thing each of us have seen.    My problem is that when shopping for myself, I tend to buy the first thing I see, instead of being more picky.

I believe this comes from my pre-band, fat past.  When I was big, there wasn't a huge selection at the stores.  If I found something that fit and didn't look totally awful, I would get one in every color.  Now I can afford to be picky.  I have lots of choices in clothing, but I still operate with the former fat girl attitude.

I do not need grab the first thing because it fits.  Go for getting something because it makes me look fantastic!  Less clothing with more substance.  One perfect pair of black pants instead of 10 pairs of black pants that just look ok.  I need to make sure I take everything I buy to my tailor to make it fit my 5'1" frame.

Lots of us when we lose enough weight to be in regular clothing, kind of go crazy with the shopping.  We buy entire wardrobes of size 14 clothes, when we are only going to lose more weight.  Since we "settled" for so long, we tend to forget that a tailor can do wonders with fit.  A tailor can help you transition through sizes during yoru weight loss.  We also tend to buy some age inappropriate clothing.  I did it when I got to goal too.  It is great that you can wear a size 6, but at 55 years old, you do not need to wear a halter top and mini skirt.  Just sayin...

So, what do I want you to take away from this little rant?  First of all, don't buy out the store because you can fit into it.  Go for quality over quantity.  Dress for your age.  Finally, when you go shopping, take me with you!  Let me live vicariously through you!
